ADDRESSING LOW MOTIVATION IN YOUR NOT FOR PROFIT
Maintaining motivation within community organisation can be challenging, especially during times of stagnation or high workload. Low motivation among members often leads to reduced participation, slower progress and diminished morale, affecting the group’s overall goals.
To counter this, leaders must first identify the root causes:
- Is the workload unfairly distributed?
- Are members unclear about their roles?
- Is the organisation failing to celebrate small wins?
Open communication is key. NFP House facilitates a free health check process with the management committee which can help to draw out and prioritise steps for moving forward. It can also help to reinforce what the organisation’s shared vision is. Do you need to revisit your strategic planning to connect to this and to implement tangible actions?
Other ideas include:
- Celebrating milestones, recognising individual and group achievements.
- Training opportunities may also combat dwindling motivation, equipping members with new skills or knowledge to benefit the organisation and personal growth.
- Fostering a supportive culture is essential. Encourage collaboration over competition and support each other to work together.
